Upper Body Stretches: Warm Up for an Upper Body Workout

Hi I’m Tom Holland Bowflex Fitness
Advisor. These are stretches you should do before an upper body workout. Now the science tells us we should actually do a little cardio before upper body workout –
three to five minutes low level activity to get the blood flowing to the muscles
we’re going to be using during that upper body workout. After we do that
three to five minutes though, spending 10 to 15 seconds or so stretching the same muscles that we’re
going to use is a great idea. So Ryan is going to demonstrate. We’re
going to start with our shoulders. So he’s just going to take one arm, his
hands behind his elbow, apply gentle pressure stretching that shoulder. You
can see that shoulder stretching. He’s going to switch sides, so once again 10
to 15 seconds for each stretch before a workout. Each shoulder. Now we’re going to
transition into triceps. So the arm goes behind the head. You’ll
see Ryan pulling on his elbow, stretching that tricep behind the upper
arm – holding that 10 to 15 seconds, switching the other side. So shoulders,
triceps, and we’re going to finish up with the chest. Fingers go behind his
head and Ryan’s gonna actually pull back on his elbows, opening up those chest
muscles, getting ready to work that chest. When the work out is over, he’s going to do the same stretches, he’s just going to hold them a little
bit longer anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds per stretch. Subscribe to our channel for more
