Oncology supportive care at UConn
Health supplements the patient’s treatment plan, allowing them to move
into recovery. Our interdisciplinary team meets the patient’s physical, spiritual,
psycho-social, and emotional needs to better improve their cancer treatments.
Our focus is to get in there, figure out if they need assistance, they need help
with their insurance, or if they need help getting medications… Are there
transportation barriers to get them to these appointments, or back home? We have
the technology here at UConn with the cooling cap to help limit hair loss if
that’s important to the patient. Many of our patients experience lymphedema from
surgery or to cancer itself and so physical therapy can help improve
mobility of that limb. So we complement their standard oncology treatments by
looking at these different aspects of their care, meeting their needs, and then
helping move them through their journey.
